Four current and one former student in the Department of Biology at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) have earned competitive internship opportunities and admission into a graduate program.
According to Dr. Sederick Charles Rice, Associate Professor of Biology at UAPB, Tyrese Singleton, Alayasia Stewart, Kohl Thomas, and Mya Tolbert will participate in research-oriented internships this summer in Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Tennessee. He also announced that Henessae Shavers, a December 2023 UAPB graduate, has been accepted into the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s Pathobiology & Molecular Medicine Graduate Program.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Theater Department is undergoing a remarkable revitalization, a testament to the collective efforts of faculty, students, and the community. As UAPB ends the 2025 spring semester, Taijee Bunch, in his first year as UAPB’s theater instructor, has directed the production of The Color Purple, The Musical in April and is currently working as the director for Memphis the Musical, set to grace the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater at The Arts & Science Center, 701 S. Main St. in Pine Bluff, from July 17-20, 2025.

Former UAPB Chancellor Dr. Laurence B. Alexander and his wife, Veronica, have created a new endowed scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) to support students pursuing degrees in Journalism and Education. The $25,000 fund, the “Laurence and Veronica Alexander Endowment for Excellence in Multimedia Communication,” serves as a creative opportunity to offer support to a new generation of student journalists and educators.
