Division of Education
The Division of Education prepares students for careers as skilled teachers, health professionals, and recreation specialists through accredited programs that emphasize leadership, service, and professional excellence.
The Division of Education has as its purpose to facilitate the academic and professional development of students toward the goal of becoming competent and effective teachers, health professionals and leisure specialists.
Division of Education majors graduate with the Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science, Recreation Administration, or one of six initial licensure teacher preparation programs: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Biology Education, Mathematics Education, English Education, Social Studies Education.
The Division provides oversight of three special programs: (1) the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), the Cooperative Education program and (3) and the “Call Me Mister” program The Division operates within the framework of the institution’s philosophy of preparing students for professional service in the public schools, in health science and recreation programs, and in the armed forces.
The Teacher Education Program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
MAJORS
Students may choose to major in one of the following:
- Early Childhood Education Major
- Elementary Education Major
- Health Science Major
- Recreation Administration Major
MINORS
Students may choose to minor in one of the following studies:
- Health Science Minor
- Recreation Administration Minor

SPECIAL PROGRAMS
The Division provides oversight of three special programs: (1) the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), which is a professional program designed to produce future officers for the United States Army; (2) the Cooperative Education program, which enables students to acquire work experience while they are still in College; and (3) the “Call Me Mister” program, which seeks to attract under-represented males as teachers in the state’s public elementary schools. The Division operates within the framework of the institution’s philosophy of preparing students for professional service in the public schools, in health science and recreation programs, and in the armed forces.
