When choosing to attend Morris College or other South Carolina institutions, two main types of grant aid are offered: federal and state. Federal programs include Pell and SEOG grants. State programs include South Carolina Tuition Grants and the LIFE Scholarship.
Types of Grants
PELL GRANT
A Federal Pell Grant is a need-based grant provided by the U.S. Department of Education to assist undergraduate students from low-income households in paying for college. Unlike a loan, it does not have to be repaid. To qualify, students must demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form each year, have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree, and be enrolled at least half-time in an eligible program at an eligible school. The amount received depends on financial need, enrollment status (full-time or part-time), and the cost of the school.
ABOUT THE SOUTH CAROLINA TUITION GRANTS PROGRAM
The South Carolina Tuition Grants Program is administered by the SC Higher Education Tuition Grants Commission through an annual appropriation by the State General Assembly. The program’s purpose is to provide need-based grant assistance to eligible South Carolina students obtaining an initial undergraduate degree who are attending, on a full time basis, eligible independent non-profit in-state colleges.
