Morris College is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with IBM, offering every student state-of-the-art training in generative artificial intelligence (AI) that culminates in an esteemed IBM-issued industry credential. This innovative collaboration positions Morris College as one of the first Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to ensure that each undergraduate graduates not only with valuable hands-on AI experience but also with a globally recognized certification.

“Artificial intelligence is transforming every industry, and it’s essential that African Americans are front and center in this evolution. Our partnership with IBM empowers Morris College students by providing them with not only access to AI training opportunities but also the ability to create and innovate within this field. We’re equipping our students with the tools necessary for a successful future, preparing them not just for careers, but to be leaders in the digital age,” expressed Dr. Said Sewell, President of Morris College.

Valinda Kennedy, IBM AI and HBCU Program Manager, highlighted the significance of this initiative by stating, “At IBM, our mission is to empower individuals with technology. Our collaboration with Morris College unlocks opportunities for students to acquire vital generative AI skills, empowering them to lead in any career path they choose.”

Dr. Lewis P. Graham, Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized the momentous nature of this partnership, saying, “This collaboration with IBM embodies a crucial step forward for Morris College. We are fulfilling our mission of ‘Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve’ by equipping our graduates to lead, innovate, and uplift their communities.”

Dr. Deloris Y. McBride, Professor of Computer Information Systems, stated, “AI is becoming essential across all sectors, from business to the arts. By integrating AI literacy into every academic discipline, our students will graduate not only job-ready but tech-savvy as well.”

The excitement among students is palpable. Arshawna Binnion shared her enthusiasm, stating, “This program opens doors I didn’t even know existed!” Meanwhile, Marcus Davis, an English major, added, “It gives me confidence that my skill set will be relevant and in demand beyond graduation.”

Starting in Spring 2026, all students will engage in IBM’s AI curriculum and earn a certificate upon completion. Join us in celebrating this initiative at our exciting AI Launch Day event in February 2026!
