Press Release: Morris College Partners with Denmark Technical College to Expand Student Pathways

Sumter, S.C. -Morris College and Denmark Technical College have entered into an academic articulation agreement designed to create more seamless pathways for students to continue their education, transfer credits and pursue credentials at both institutions. The partnership establishes a framework for students to transition from Denmark Technical College to Morris College’s cyber security, forensic science, and e-sports programs based on their academic and career goals. Under the agreement, students from Denmark Technical College who meet applicable admission requirements can transfer into Morris College with credits evaluated toward degree programs.
“Morris College was founded in 1908 under the shadows of slavery when black men and women started a college for those who were former enslaved and used their Baptist connection to educate their children and grandchildren. One hundred eighteen years later, we are still educating people to become productive contributors to society. ” said Dr. Said Sewell, president and CEO of Morris College.
“Today’s agreement establishes a pathway for students to continue their matriculation to meaningful careers, ” remarked Dr. Sewell, “By creating stronger connections between our institutions, we can give students a clearer path to continue their education, build on the credentials they have earned and ultimately reach their academic and professional goals.”
The agreement creates specific transfer opportunities in cybersecurity, esports, and criminal justice, three areas identified by the institutions for transfer opportunities. Students who complete Denmark Tech’s certificate in cybersecurity will transfer into Morris College’s Bachelor of Science program with a major in cybersecurity, while Denmark Tech’s Associate of Applied Science in criminal justice technology provides a pathway toward Morris College’s Bachelor of Science program with a major in criminal justice.
“This partnership is about giving students more options and removing barriers between where they begin their education and where they ultimately want to go, ” said Eric Brown, president and CEO of Denmark Technical College. “Our students should be able to build on the work they have already completed, continue advancing academically and see a clear pathway from a technical college credential to a bachelor’s degree. Working with Morris College allows us to strengthen that pathway while keeping student success at the center.”
The partnership also provides broader transfer opportunities for Denmark Tech students. Those who earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree and meet Morris College admission requirements will have satisfied general education requirements and may enter Morris College with junior standing. Students completing certificate and diploma programs are also eligible for transfer admission and evaluation of their credits toward applicable undergraduate programs at Morris College.
The colleges will evaluate the partnership every two years, reviewing measures including student applications, enrollment, transfers, reverse transfers, course and program completion and graduation rates.
