Institutional Endowed Scholarships
Morris College is proud to offer a number of internally funded endowed scholarships made possible through the generosity of alumni, friends, churches, and philanthropic partners. These competitive scholarships recognize students for academic achievement, leadership, service, and demonstrated financial need while helping reduce the cost of earning a college degree.
Endowed scholarships are typically awarded annually during the Fall semester and are generally renewable for one academic year, provided recipients continue to meet the scholarship’s eligibility requirements. Scholarship criteria vary by fund, and students may qualify for multiple scholarship opportunities based on their academic performance, leadership, involvement, and other established qualifications.

Morris College Endowed Scholarship Criteria
The Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust Endowed Scholarship
The Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a junior majoring in Cyber Security with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The student must be enrolled full-time and in need of financial assistance. This scholarship was donated by the Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust
The Gerald R. Polinsky Endowed Scholarship
The Gerald R. Polinsky Endowed Scholarship is awarded to an entering freshman student majoring in Liberal Studies with a 3.0 grade point average or higher. The student must be enrolled full-time and in need of financial assistance. Scholarship applicants must submit an essay of 500 words minimum on the topic of “Describe Why You Are Pursuing a Degree in Liberal Studies.” A Selection Committee, including the two donors and three Morris College faculty or staff, will make the final selection for the scholarship each time it is awarded. This scholarship was established by Nancy Polinsky Johnson and Joanna Polinsky.
The Dr. Leroy Staggers Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Leroy Staggers Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a freshman majoring in Cyber Security who is a full-time student at Morris College. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and needs financial assistance. This scholarship is funded by Dr. Leroy Staggers and the Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust.
The Lillie Dozier Coard Endowed Scholarship
The Lillie Dozier Coard Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a freshman majoring in Cyber Security who is a full-time student at Morris College. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be in need of financial assistance. This scholarship is funded by the Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust and Aladdin Food Service Management.
The Marie Shaw Endowed Scholarship
The Marie Shaw Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a freshman majoring in Cyber Security who is a full-time student at Morris College. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be in need of financial assistance. This scholarship is funded by the Williams-Brice-Edwards Charitable Trust and Aladdin Food Service Management.
The Frank and Dorothy Drones Endowed Scholarship
The Frank and Dorothy Drones Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a Junior majoring in Business Administration who is a full-time student at Morris College. The student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and needs financial assistance. This scholarship is established by the Frank and Dorothy Drones of Abilene, Texas
The Magnolia Robinson Williams Endowed Scholarship
The Magnolia Robinson Williams Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a full-time junior or senior majoring in Criminal Forensics with a 2.5 GPA or above. Mrs. Magnolia R. Williams was a strong proponent of education and co-owner of Williams Funeral Home, Incorporated. The recipient must have good citizenship. This scholarship was donated by Elder Dr. James Elbert Williams, her son.
The M. Veronica Wilson and Carnell A. Wilson Sr. Endowed Scholarship
The M. Veronica Wilson and Carnell A. Wilson, Sr. Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student from Darlington County, South Carolina. The candidate should be a high school student with a 2.5 GPA or better and plans to major in education, or a currently enrolled student majoring in education with a 2.5 GPA or higher. This scholarship was donated by the children of M. Veronica Wilson and Camell A. Wilson, Sr.
The AKA-HBCU Endowed Scholarship
The AKA-HBCU Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time and in good academic standing. The recipient is eligible for renewal consideration if he/she continues to meet the scholarship criteria set forth above and applies for renewal. This scholarship was established by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation, an Illinois not-for-profit organization
The Lula Revecca Beal Shamley Endowed Scholarship
The Lula Rebecca Beal Shamley Endowed Scholarship. Awarded to a student preferably from Greenville or Anderson counties in South Carolina. The student must be an elementary education major with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better and demonstrate a need for financial assistance. This scholarship was donated by Mrs. Peggy Brown Baxter, the grandniece of Alumnus Lula Rebecca Beal Shamley, Class of 1927.
The Lucy J. Reuben and John A. Cole Faculty Service Award Fund
Select Criteria As Specified by Donor. Funds will be awarded annually during the Fall Academic Convocation or during the Faculty and Staff Awards Luncheon. The award will be based on recommendations of service during the prior academic year and will include appropriate consideration of the following:
• Encouraging, facilitating, and assisting opportunities for students to participate in research, internships, and/or other activities of civic engagement and/or community development.
• Evidence of scholarship and/or teaching to encourage civic engagement and/or community development.
• Contributions to the mission, outreach, and service of Morris College.
The awardee will receive at least $500 for the faculty development and/or related activities and will receive a plaque to include the full name of the award as well as the date of the academic year (e.g., 2022-2023) to which the award pertains, and the plaque shall be at least 8′ x 11′ in size.
The donors and family will be notified of the date and time. and the location of the award presentation at least six weeks in advance.
The Celio Britt Edmonds Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund
Celio Britt Edmonds, an alumnus of Morris College, desiring to assist young people in their efforts to acquire a higher education in a Christian environment, hereby established the Celio Britt Edmonds Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund at Morris College.
These funds in the amount of $15,000.00 are to be added to and made a part of Morris College’s permanent endowment, to be invested for a safe and reasonable return. Enough of the earnings attributable to this scholarship fund shall be retained to assure that the Celio Britt Edmonds Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund portion of the endowment grows at no less than the annual rate of inflation; however, this shall be subject to the earnings of the endowment.
Earnings above the amount needed for reinvestment to keep up with inflation shall be available for distribution as scholarship(s) for student(s) at Morris College.
The Financial Aid Office of Morris College shall endeavor to select first-time freshmen recipients who are graduates, preferably from Dorchester County in South Carolina, and have taken the initiative to officially enroll in Morris College. Students may have any major with a minimum GPA of 2.0 or better and demonstrate a need for financial assistance. When candidates of equal qualifications present themselves, preference shall be given to the one(s) with the greater need for financial aid to continue his/her higher education.
No award needs to be made in a year in which there is no suitable candidate(s). In that event, the funds not distributed shall be added to the principal of the Celio Britt Edmonds Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund portion of the Morris College endowment. The Financial Aid Office will provide the donor with a list of candidates and funds awarded annually.
The Dr. Emily E. Clyburn Endowed Scholarship
Awards of up to $1,000 will be provided (as funds are available each semester). The scholarship is renewable for up to four years.
Scholarships may be used for tuition, academic fees, and/or books.
Students must be enrolled as sophomore, junior, or senior, carry a full load of a minimum of 12 hours, and have a grade point average of 2.7 or better.
Priority should be given to students who have documented unmet financial needs not provided from other sources.
Continuing applicants must remain in good academic standing with a grade point average of 2.7 or better.
The Alan Johnson Endowed Scholarship
The Alan P. Johnson, Ill Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a rising senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The student must be on the Dean’s List or President’s List. A hardworking student must be actively involved in campus clubs/organizations and exemplify good citizenship. The student must submit a 500-word essay on “What It Means to Me to Receive the Alan P. Johnson, III Endowed Scholarship.” Alan was a scholarly and outstanding student who graduated from Morris College with honors.
The scholarship was established and founded by Mr. Anthony Signore, the founder of the Frederick Douglas Bicentennial Scholarship, in honor of Alan P. Johnson Ill, who was a recipient of the Douglas Scholarship in 2019. The scholarship also recognizes Alan’s parents, Latarasha S. Foy-Richardson and Rashon A. Richardson, and his brothers. Justin K. Johnson and Nile P. Johnson.
