Charles Fienning, retired owner of the Sumter Packaging Corporation in Sumter, S.C. donated $10, 000 towards the Otis Scott, Sr. Memorial Scholarship and The Louis Fleming Memorial Scholarship. Each received $5000. “I was pleased to honor my two county council colleagues, the late Louis Fleming and the late Reverend Otis S. Scott, Sr., I served with them on the County Council and learned a great deal from those two men. They fought for justice, equality, and humanity and they taught me some important lessons,” said Charles Fienning.
When asked why others should consider donating to Morris College Fienning said, “One of the best investments of someone interested in philanthropy can make is in education, education at all levels. My wife and I have been strong supporters of public schools here in Sumter and all four of our sons attended public schools in Sumter. We have made various contributions to various educational colleges including colleges we’ve attended. We extended to local colleges because education is the best investment you can make.”
“This gift allows our institution to continue to support students well into the future, said President Dr. Leroy Staggers. “We are thankful for the continuous support from all our donors.”
