Patricia W. Smith

Patricia W. Smith is an assistant professor at Morris College in the Division of General Studies. She teaches Developmental Reading II and Developmental English II. Prior to joining the Morris College faculty, she served in the public school system as an elementary and middle school teacher, remedial reading teacher, reading specialist, and English/Language Arts Coordinator. She served as a regional literacy coach for the South Carolina Department of Education. She has also served as an adjunct professor for the University of South Carolina, USC Sumter, USC Aiken, USC Spartanburg, Morris College, Francis Marion, College of Charleston and Charleston Southern. She served on the Commission for Higher Education for USC Sumter and is an educational consultant who has served school districts in and out of state. She has done workshops for the Palmetto State Literacy Association, International Literacy Association and the National Council of Teachers of English.

Mrs. Smith’s studies earned her a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Morris College, a Master of Education Degree in Reading from the University of South Carolina and an Educational Specialist Degree in Literacy and Learning from the University of South Carolina. She has served as a critic reader for several textbook companies and has received numerous awards as she served on committees for professional organizations. She keeps abreast of current trends and issues and is passionate about her belief as she stands on the shoulders of other who believe that all students can learn regardless of their innate abilities.
