Morris College Names Jenone Bell as Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Veteran coach brings nearly three decades of collegiate coaching and administrative experience

Sumter, SC – Morris College is proud to announce the hiring of Jenone Bell as the new Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team. Bell arrives with over 28 years of collegiate coaching experience and a proven track record of building competitive, high-character programs across the country.

Bell most recently served as the Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Shorter College, where she successfully revived the athletic program after a 25-year hiatus. In just their second season back, Bell’s team advanced to the Region 2 Championship game and finished second in the region. She coached four First Team All-Region players who continued their athletic careers at Division I and II institutions.

“I’m very passionate about basketball and my vision for our basketball program here at Morris College is to emphasize a commitment to excellence both on and off the court, including engaging with fans and building a strong presence in the community,” said Coach Bell. “I’m excited to get to work and help our student-athletes thrive in all areas of life.”

Bell’s coaching journey has included successful stints at Southeastern Baptist College, St. Gregory’s University, Southern University Shreveport, Lindenwood University, Lincoln University (Mo.), and more. As a student-athlete at Cal State San Bernardino, Bell was a record-setting sharpshooter, finishing with a career three-point field goal percentage of 38.4%, a record that still stands today.

Morris College Athletic Director Coach Fredrick Summers shared his enthusiasm for the new hire:

“I am extremely excited about the hiring of Jenone Bell. She brings over 20 years of coaching and administrative experience to the Athletic Department of Morris College. She will be a great mentor for our young men and women and I’m looking forward to her success with our women’s program in the classroom and on the court. Our goal is to elevate Morris College, and with this hire we have done just that. We are looking forward to great things from Coach Bell as she rebuilds our women’s basketball program.”

Bell holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Cal State San Bernardino and a Master’s in Secondary Education from Kansas State University.

Morris College welcomes Coach Jenone Bell and looks forward to a new era of excellence in women’s basketball.
