A new-and-improved retail dining option is coming to Morris College.

The Hornet's Nest is opening in the college's student center with a grand opening celebration on Friday from noon to 3 p.m. featuring free tastings. The former pizza operation will serve an array of selections for dine in or take out, including burgers, subs, pizza, chicken fingers, wings and sweet potato fries, according to a news release. Coca-Cola products will include soda, lemonade, tea and water, and there is seating for up to 100 where students can also watch TV or play pool.

"We started renovating in November 2018 while students were still on campus," said Cassandra Garner, food service director for Aladdin, which is managing the food and is celebrating its one-year anniversary as the official dining partner of Morris College.

Renovations included the addition of Aladdin signature stations, including Grill Works and Show Time exhibition cooking, according to the news release. A deli, condiment, dessert, waffle and a new beverage station were also added to the delight of the students.

Other renovations include the cafeteria's front of the house to provide new dining stations and to streamline the serving process.

Student favorites include "breakfast for dinner," where executive chef Brian Griffin will prepare grits, eggs, bacon, sausage and brisket and gravy along with fresh pastry and fruit. Fish Friday is also popular, which includes everything from baked and fried fish to shrimp and grits.

"We want to keep students engaged and enjoy their college experience," said Andrea Butler, Morris College communications specialist. "The new Hornet's Nest and the recent renovations to our cafeteria achieves that."

Regular hours will be Monday-Friday from noon to 10 p.m. and weekends from 3 to 10 p.m. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
