Morris alumnus, Jeffery Jackson, has been named second in command as Major of Operations for the Sumter Police Department. Jackson, a Sumter native and veteran officer is a 1987 graduate of Morris College with a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Jackson served as an officer in the U.S. Army before joining the police department as a patrolman in 1988. Having served as a shift sergeant and a lieutenant, he achieved the rank of captain in 2004.
In addition to graduating from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, Jackson is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Class #236. He also is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
Jackson’s promotion from captain to second in command of the department became effective January 1. As major of operations, he is responsible for the department’s four divisions and the 9-1-1 Communications Center.
