The Department of Education pays interest while the student is in school and during grace and deferment periods.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan

Non-Need-Based Loan

The borrower is responsible for interest during the life of the loan

South Carolina Tuition Grant

Need-Based Grants

Awarded to SC Residents who apply before June 30th

Up to $3,600

Must be enrolled full-time

Freshmen students must rank in the upper 75% of their HS class and have a 2.70 gpa, or score 900 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT

Upper-class students must maintain satisfactory academic progress

Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Program

Merit-Based Scholarship

Awarded to SC Residents who meet the qualifications

$6,700/year

$10,000/year for Math and Science majors

Must have at least a 3.5 gpa, rank in the upper 5% of their HS class and score 1200 on the SAT (27 ACT)

South Carolina LIFE Scholarship

Merit-Based Scholarship

Awarded to SC Residents who meet the qualifications

$5,000/year

$7,500/year for Math and Science majors

Must be enrolled in at least 12 college credits per semester

Freshman students must meet two of the three following requirements:

-HS gpa of 3.00 or better

- Rank in the upper 30% of their HS class

- Score 1100 on the SAT (24 ACT)

Upper-class students must have a 3.00 or better gpa and earn 30 credit hours each year

South Carolina HOPE Scholarship

Merit-Based Scholarship

Awarded to First Year S.C. residents who meet the qualifications

$2,800/year

Freshmen only

Must have a 3.00 HS gpa and not be eligible for LIFE or Palmetto Fellows

The Luns C. Richardson Endowed Scholarship

Merit-Based Scholarship

$4,500/year

Awarded to exceptional HS graduates with a gpa of 4.5 or higher on a 10.00 scale

Must maintain a 3.50 gpa for renewal

The Presidential Scholarship

Merit-Based Scholarship

$750- $2,500/year

Awarded to HS graduates who rank in the upper one-fourth of their graduating class

Must maintain a 3.00 gpa for renewal
