On Thursday, March 21, 2019, Jim Headley, Executive Director of the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association, traveled to the H.H. Butler Building from Lexington to speak with students majoring in Recreation Administration.
Mr. Headley informed the future professionals about his role as the Executive Director, provided expertise about scholarship and career opportunities, informed students about the different career opportunities available within the business, and spoke about the trends in the recreation industry.
Headley was named the Executive Director in April of 1987, a year after receiving his B.S. degree in Parks and Recreation Administration from the University of Iowa. Since moving to South Carolina, Headley has officiated high school and collegiate sports, served as Chairperson for the Council of State Executive Directors, and assisted in the writing and implementation of the South Carolina Obesity Prevention Plan.
He currently serves as the Association’s legislative liaison to both the Statehouse and U.S. Congressional delegation and as a visitor for the Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies.
