Dr. Jerry Young to Speak at Fall Harvest 2013

SUMTER, S.C. — The college will hold its Annual Fall Harvest Worship Service and Rally on Saturday, November 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the Garrick-Boykin Human Development Center. Dr. Jerry Young, senior pastor of New Hope Baptist Church of Jackson, Miss., will be the keynote speaker.

Dr. Young received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi. He earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Miss.

Dr. Young has served on several local, state and national boards and has been recognized with numerous honors and awards. In addition, he is regularly invited to lecture at colleges throughout Mississippi and across the nation.  Dr. Young has had the opportunity to preach in pulpits across the country and has breached racial and denominational lines.

Dr. Young serves on trustee boards at Belhaven College, Jackson, Miss., and Rust College. He is the immediate past president of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi, Inc. He currently serves as the vice president at-large of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

He is married to Helen Akins Young. They have two adult daughters, Dr. Jerlen Nelson and Kelli Elizabeth Hart.
