Weeks: New Black Caucus Chairman
Representative J. David Weeks was recently sworn in as chairman of the 38 member, bi-partisan South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus. The caucus, made up of African American members from the South Carolina General Assembly (9 in the Senate and 29 in the House), will be chaired by our illustrious graduate during its 2008-2010 term. An advocate of higher education, he is sure to push for continued funding of the Higher Education Excellence Enhancement Program (HEEEP).
In addition to his numerous religious, civic, community, fraternal and professional commitments, Representative Weeks is a member of the Morris College Board of Trustees where he serves as vice chairman.
The founder and senior partner of the law firm of Weeks & Deas, LLC of Sumter, Representative Weeks is married to alumna Cheryl Hannibal of Sumter. They have two daughters and three grandchildren. He enjoys reading, photography, doing crossword puzzles and listening to music, especially traditional gospel, jazz and the blues.
