Crum Awarded UNCF Mellon Fellowship

  Chariti Crum, a Morris College rising Junior, has been awarded a UNCF Mellon Undergraduate Fellowship. She will receive the following undergraduate student stipends: Summer Institute Stipend, $3,900; Academic Term Stipend,   $1,800 per semester ($3,600 per year); Junior Summer Stipend, $3,900; and a Fellows Travel Allowance of $600 per year. During her senior year, she will be warded $400 for GRE Preparation and an additional $400.00 for a Research Fund Stipend.

   Crum, a sociology major, participates in the Morris College Honors Program. She is also a member of the Morris College Cheer Squad, the Xi Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and was recently elected as the First Attendant to Miss Morris College 2011-2012.

   A Summer Institute, “Scholars Transforming the Academy,” will be held June 1-30, 2011 at Emory University and will be conducted by Dr. Akiba Harper, chair of the English Department at Spelman College.

   Dr. Reginald A. Bess, chairperson of the Division of General Studies, is the college’s Campus Coordinator for the UNCF Mellon Undergraduate Fellowship Program; and Dr. Robert Carter, associate professor of sociology, will serve as Crum’s mentor during the fellowship period.
